The beginnings... in http://mecano.ws/ Inspired by an old booklet of a Meccano construction box (a very popular toy long before Lego existed, as fabricated and sold in the 30's) Dirk was struck by a vision of a world built out of Meccano, in painting, sculpture and even lyrics and music that lead to his 1977 Painting "______". The examples in the instruction booklet set Dirk to paint his Meccano figures, surrounded by surrealistic landscapes and interiors.
In those days punk was booming and Dirk thought it was time to start a band and together with Pieter Kooyman and a few hired guns he recorded Face Cover Face, b/w Fools as Mecano Ltd. for the "No Fun" label. But Dirk wanted a real band and so he asked Ton Lebbink
to be the drummer. Ton, who was a bouncer at Paradiso in Amsterdam and thus knowing everybody on the scene, immediately introduced the brothers Tejo and Cor Bolten, who also worked at
Paradiso. Beside their musical abilities, Ton and the Bolten brothers, had the advantage of unlimited access to Paradiso, the best rehearsing place a band could think of and they started experimenting and putting the music together, mainly based on the ideas of Dirk and the Bolten brothers. The band was formed in the blink of an eye. In the summer of '79 Mecano made their
stage debut and began touring. After some years, the band decided to take separate ways, although reunited throughout the times for specific projects. what triggered Dirk. This loss made him promise upon his dead body that he would sing again. In January 2005 Tejo Bolten and Dirk Polak, brought their music and lyrics to another level with the release of the album 'Snake
Tales for Dragon'. As a metaphore of the Meccano toy found years ago "for the engineer of tomorrow", Tejo and Dirk reassembled the parts of the original structure and began to build a
whole new story for Mecano. as new wave, with remarkable arrangements, colored with unusual guitar harmonies; with brashness and provocation, converting into an astonishing electric blend. All this combined with Dirks' own grammar like "lack of joie de vivre" or "globe old influenced by the poetry of Andre Breton, Paul Eluard and above all Russian poet Maiakovski, are overall cryptic and along the way Dirk added his". |

BIOGRAPHY in, http://www.ashramusic.com/asbio.php3 The embryo of the band was formed in June '97 when Sergio Panarella and Luigi Rubino first started collecting ideas for the project that would later be known as Ashram. While undergoing the writing process of their first ever release, the duo invited Alfredo Notarloberti, the notorious napolitan violinist, to take their side in this ambitious project. With the line-up complete, the band recorded eleven songs out of which seven were selected and included on the demo "Fo r My Sun", self-released in May'99.The remarkable energy and empathy between these musicians granted them an appearance as the opening track on Energeia's compilation "Intimations of Immortality Vol. 5" with the song "Spirit of the Rising Moon", and drew some media attention to this emmerging band. Shortly after,
Ashram signs with the French label Prikosnovenie.
In 2001, th e line-up is
expanded as Leonardo Massa joins the group on cello, thus completing the ensemble that would participate in the
recording of the critically acclaimed debut self-titled album released in the following year. This new release was followed by intense live activity, as
the band performed innumerous shows in Italy and even a couple of tours in Portugal. After a period of reflexion, Ashram are now presenting their second full-length recording, under the title "Shining Silver Skies", and out via Equilibrium Music in May 20 06. |

In http://www.projekt.com/artist.asp?id=1018 "Effortlessly seductive, reducing odd syllables to a whisper, a sense of calm weeping from every note in spite of the articulation of loss and loneliness, confusion and incomprehension, fears and pains, yearnings and soft burnings . . . The album is a triumph of minimalism, dreamscapes gently stirred to pale life through the gentle fingering of fretboards and keyboards . . . Grasping at clouds and clinging to Gabriel's frayed gown. A wonder." (MELODY MAKER) Area began in 1985 when Steve Jones asked Lynn Canfield and Henry Frayne to participate in a recording project. From there the trio recorded five albums; then went on extended leave in 1990. Lynn and Henry formed another band, The Moon Seven Times, which recorded three albums for Third Mind / Roadrunner; eventually disbanding in 1998. Lynn then formed Shotgun Wedding, with Brendan Gamble (also of Mx7) and others; while Henry recorded under the name Lanterna, and signed with Rykodisc for an album. Shotgun Wedding disbanded, and Lynn is now writing and touring in Lynn Canfield & Hot Tub Party. Meantime, Projekt Record has been reissuing the original Area albums as part of the Projekt: Archive series. In 1998 Radio Caroline and The Perfect Dream were reissued, while February of 2000 saw the release of Between Purple & Pink and Fragments of the Morning. Jones began writing new music for Area in 1996 with Mel Eberle, formerly his bandmate in The Arms of Someone New, and Kris Krasnowski on vocals. Kris sung backing vocals on "The One Year" on the Fragments of the Morning album, and sung lead vocals on "O Come Emmanuel" on Projekt's Excelsis: A Dark Noel CD as well as on "Too Far Away (Drum 'n' Tabby Mix)" on Projekt's A Cat-Shaped Hole in my Heart (Lynn Canfield's Shotgun Wedding appears on that album, and solo she appears on Excelsis vol. 2 - A Winter's Song.Work on a new Area album for 2000 or 2001 continues. |

http://www.autumnblaze-kingdom.com http://www.myspace.com/autumnblazeband Label: Prophecy Allemagne, Metal / Death Metal / Progressive Membres: Alvar Eldron - vox, guitars, Arisjel - backing vox, percussions, Ulf Theodor Schwadorf - drums, bass similaire: A creeping leaf in darkness. |
|
Biography, site officielThe first time the two founding members Arisjel and Eldron discussed about a new band combining the strength of black metal with the melancholy and melody of Katatonia was sometime around 1994 when the two young death/black metal fans travelled through Sweden. It was a great and important journey with some challenging experiences the soulbrothers will never forget. Then after two more years - Eldron played with some exciting song ideas - he asked Arisjel to form Autumnblaze. Together they rehearsed the fastest songs they ever written in their young career. Most likely this was the purest and most fulfilling time in their history - a time with unforgettable moments, for example the flush when they played "Flamedoves". After the first demo "Dreaming moonspark fairylands" german Indie Label Prophecy Productions released the first EP "Every silent moment I weep" and the debut album "DaemmerElbenTragoedie". All that happened between 1997 and 1999. Then the story of Autumnblaze turned into an epic drama of selfishness, self-fulling prophecies and twisting social agony. The beginning of the dark years was staged by a ridiculous accident but it was the first test of something bigger and both Eldron and Arisjel failed. Between 2000 and 2005 Autumnblaze fell deeper and deeper and finally turned into a self-inflikted chaos with the the climax november 2005 when Eldron (Arisjel was not a member since "Mute boy Sad girl") disbanded Autumnblaze in hopeless frustration. The deep friendship between Eldron and Arisjel was more than broken but there was a tiny little thread between the two that never was lost and so, after years of desolation and despair, they build up their soulspawn brotherhood again, step by step with patience, respect and a children's miracle. In 2008 finally Eldron and Arisjel are back in their old strength and ready for the best Autumnblaze the world ever had. |

Chronique: Boduf Songs is the name taken by Mat Sweet, who lives in Southampton England. Sweet has released a number of limited edition CD-Rs by himself and friends working in various combinations and playing music that ranged from pure electronics to heavy rock on his Bluebaby Recordings label. Boduf Songs was Sweet's first attempt at recording himself playing his own songs. The album was recorded with an acoustic guitar, some cymbals, violin bow, toy piano, manipulated field recordings and a computer. A demo CD-R got to kranky (among other places) and we were floored. Arrangements were made to release the Boduf Songs demo as it was, without re-recording. The immediacy of the songs overcame the technical limitations of the recording process. Sweet had created songs with memorable melodies, artful arrangements and carefully placed effects. The Boduf Songs album reminds the listener of a sunny English afternoon, with an ominous tinge of approaching clouds. Sweet's collaged album art, taken from Victorian books, lends a surreal air to the album. Mat Sweet will be recording a second Boduf Songs album under more ideal conditions for release on kranky in 2006. "Stark and dark psychedelia exquisitely woven by one M. Sweet. A thick, oaken acoustic guitar dominates, but Sweet doesn't shy away from applying cymbal splashes and string interludes (with some lovely harmonics feeding back on "Claimant Reclaimed," a too-little-used technique of startling beauty) at odd moments in the songs. In so doing he fills out their texture, sometimes disorientingly, as with the strange chimes that devour the end of "Lost in Forests," but he doesn't make them overdone or obscure. He never creates too much of a diversion from the heavy, melancholy cores of the songs. These morose incantations, these burnished prayers were wrought with great care and intelligence emotional, musical, and dare I say spiritual. What spirits are invoked I don't know, but I imagine they are as riveted as I am to these haunted musings."9/10 - Sal Addays, Foxy Digitalis, July 1, 2005 ...this album is too damn short. It's easy to find this album playing on repeat for the majority of the day. Not that this is a bad thing. This album is unbelievably cool in that pitch black night sort of manner. However, Boduf Songs can easily make one forget about any other albums that might be lying around your apartment. - Eric McPhail, Delusions of Adequacy, July 11, 2005 |
